Most shipping labels—such as those from DHL, FedEx, or UPS—contain multiple barcodes. When you intend to scan Barcode A, the scanner may mistakenly read Barcode B instead. These misreads can significantly impact efficiency. To avoid this issue, you may need to configure the scanner to recognize only barcodes within a specific length range.
In this guide, I will walk you through the steps to configure the barcode length settings.
📦 Example Scenario
Device: NS02 Wearable Scanner Scan Engine: Zebra SE4107 Type of the Barcode: Code39 Customer Requirement: Only scan barcodes that are between 10 and 55 characters in length. Ignore any barcodes shorter than 10 characters.
⚠️ Note: The configuration barcodes vary depending on the scan engine model. Please contact your sales representative to get the correct configuration barcode sheet.
First, let’s test this express delivery label. Currently, all barcodes can be scanned Now let’s scan the setting barcode and only allow the scanner to read barcodes with 10 to 55 digits
✅ Steps to Set Barcode Length (10 to 55 Characters)
Step1: Scan the “Set Barcode Length” configuration barcode
Scan the setting barcode “1”
Scan the setting barcode “0”
Scan the setting barcode “5”
Scan the setting barcode “5”
🔍 Important Notes:
During configuration, there will be no beep or feedback sound.
Be sure to cover all other barcodes on the label when scanning each configuration barcode to prevent accidental scanning
🎯 Test the Setting
Once configuration is complete, try scanning the shipping label again. The scanner should now only read barcodes that are 10 to 55 characters long, and ignore anything shorter.
