Android Handheld Computer FAQ

Match the Android version, scanning engine, network bands and integration method to the specific PDA configuration before deployment.

Explore Android Handheld Computer.

Which Android version does the PDA use?

The Android version depends on the model and project configuration. Check the product specification and Settings > About device for the Android version and build number.

Is an Android version update the same as a firmware update?

No. An Android version upgrade and a model-specific firmware update are different changes. Confirm upgrade availability for the exact model and current build with EFFON before deployment; do not assume an OTA upgrade is supported.

Does the PDA include Google Play or GMS?

Availability depends on the exact model and software configuration. AOSP does not automatically include Google services. Confirm the required GMS configuration before ordering if your application relies on Google Play or Google APIs.

Can I change the system language?

Android provides language settings for supported languages. Check Settings > System > Languages or the equivalent menu for the device's software version.

How does our Android application receive scan data?

EFFON can provide model-specific SDK or development documentation. Broadcast integration requires the application to receive the documented Intent action and data fields. Do not reuse interface parameters from another PDA model.

Should we use keyboard output or SDK integration?

Keyboard output is suitable when the app accepts text in the focused field. Broadcast or SDK integration is useful when the app must control scanning or process data directly. Test the method with the intended software.

Does the PDA support kiosk mode or MDM?

Support depends on the model, Android version and management platform. Provide the required restrictions and MDM platform for compatibility assessment.

How can I change scan output and barcode settings?

Use the model's scan service to configure supported symbologies and suffixes such as Enter or CR. Menu names differ by platform. If a code is not decoded, also check label quality, density and distance.

Can the PDA scan screens, distant labels and DPM codes?

These uses require the appropriate scan engine. A standard 2D engine may read supported screen codes, while long-range shelf scanning and DPM need suitable configurations and sample testing.

Can the battery and charging cradle be selected for shift work?

Battery design and compatible charging accessories differ by model. Confirm whether the battery is replaceable and which single-slot or multi-slot cradle is available. Plan charging around the actual duty cycle.

What should I check when warehouse Wi-Fi is unreliable?

Check access-point coverage, signal strength, channel interference, roaming settings and power management. Confirm server connectivity, DNS and network configuration. Test the PDA on the actual warehouse network.

Will the PDA work with our mobile carrier?

Match the model's bands to the country and carrier. Band compatibility alone may be insufficient: carrier approval and network requirements can also apply. Test a sample with the intended SIM and service.

Can NFC read our staff or access cards?

Confirm the card frequency, protocol and application requirements. Not every card is compatible with every PDA's NFC configuration. Provide real cards for testing.

How do I check ruggedness and hazardous-area suitability?

Confirm drop protection, temperature range and the exact model's certifications for the working environment. An IP rating does not establish hazardous-area approval; such locations require a suitably certified device.

The PDA scans but our app receives nothing. What information helps?

Test the scan output in a basic text field, then check the application's input mode, focus and SDK or Broadcast configuration. Send the model, serial number, system version, reproduction steps and relevant screenshots or logs to support.

Can the PDA be customized or supplied with our app?

Branding, packaging, selected startup settings and app preinstallation can be discussed for a project. Feasibility, minimum quantity and costs depend on the platform. Complete compatibility testing before production.
